About Christopher Stocks

Christopher Stocks was born and brought up in Yorkshire, but made his way
south in the late 1980s to pursue a career in the feverish world of glossy
magazines. He has worked for, among others, Harpers & Queen, ES Magazine, Sky and Wallpaper, reporting on everything from Uruguayan beach resorts to an underground submarine base off the coast of Sweden. More recently he was the gardens correspondent of the Independent On Sunday, and Forgotten Fruits is his first book.

In 2002 he moved to the Isle of Portland off the Dorset coast, where he
works and gardens from a fisherman’s cottage overlooking Chesil Beach. He
collects unusual perfumes and old Shell Guides, won a 2007 Bridport Prize
for his poetry, and shares a birthday with John Malkovich and Dame Hermione
Gingold. His ideal job would be Cake Correspondent for French Vogue.
